Be Alert for Scams

During times of uncertainty, scams targeting utility customers increase. If you see something, say something. We urge you to call our Customer Care team at (949) 459-6420 if you are suspicious about any emails, calls or visits you receive from people claiming to be with the Santa Margarita Water District.

Protecting Your Online Account

  • SMWD will never ask you for your password for your online account
  • If you receive a request to reset your password, make sure you requested it from our online customer portal, if you’re unsure, please call us

Here’s how to tell a Santa Margarita Water District employee from an impostor:

  • SMWD employees will not enter your home
  • SMWD employees drive official vehicles clearly marked with our logo
  • SMWD employees will always provide a photo ID badge with our logo in plain view
  • District employees will never request or collect payment at your home
