On July 12, 2023, the District extended the public hearing for the San Juan Capistrano Proposition 218 rate-setting process with a vote to continue the discussion of the adjustment to the rates. “After careful consideration and listening to our customers, we will continue to evaluate our options,” said President Frank Ury. “We appreciate the community participating in the process.”
The board will reconvene on August 2 at its regular Board meeting to consider the following: 1) approve portions of the proposed rate study, or 2) authorize a new rate study over the next 9-12 months and discuss potential impacts to funding, other improvement districts and community engagement. The existing rate study includes proposed rates for drinking water, wastewater, recycled water, fire service connections, and annual property tax bills.
“We will continue to work on a collaborative solution that takes into account the aging water and sewer infrastructure and the people of San Juan Capistrano,” said Director Laura Freese.
Santa Margarita Water District will continue to provide rate-related information on its website at www.smwd.com/SJC.
