Santa Margarita Water District was awarded a Rose Award by the Orange County Taxpayers Association (OC Tax) for the San Juan Capistrano water utility annexation and the benefits it will provide to the citizens of San Juan. The city was also honored for their role in the process. OC Tax holds an annual “Roses & Radishes” dinner at which Rose awards are given to individuals and organizations, public or private, whose programs show high levels of innovation, the ability to be replicated, and/or collaborative efforts that ultimately benefit the taxpayers. Radish awards are given to individuals and organizations, public and private, who have done things that were counter to the best interests of taxpayers.
Santa Margarita Water became the drinking water, recycled water, and wastewater provider for San Juan Capistrano residents in November 2021.
