Santa Margarita Water District invests millions of dollars annually to maintain and repair its infrastructure to help ensure reliable water services to its more than 200,000 residents. Here are a few of the current and planned projects happening in your neighborhood. Many projects have their webpage with specifics and maps of the impacted area. Las Flores/Wagon Wheel/Coto de Caza
- Las Flores Recycled Water Expansion - expected completion in late 2023
Mission Viejo
- Oso Treatment Plant (Mission Viejo, near La Paz and Marguerite)
Rancho Mission Viejo
- Ranch Treatment Plant - expected completion in late 2023
Rancho Santa Margarita
- Plano Trabuco Reservoirs - October 2022 - Summer of 2023
- Estado Reservoir Upgrade - fall of 2023
- Rancho Santa Margarita Recycled Water - pending approval
San Juan Capistrano
Los Rios Street Sewer Upgrade
- June 5 -18, 2023
- Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
- Los Rios Street closed from Del Obispo to 31871 Los Rios (just before River Street)
- There will be a 4-hour interruption in sewer service to reconnect the new pipelines. The impacted customers will receive a door hanger 48 hours before the interruption in sewer service.

Don Juan Project - Andres Pico Road & Ysidora Street
- March 27-May 27, 2023 (extended to June 1, 2023)
- Monday - Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM
- Pipeline and Pressure Zone Upgrades
- Temporary shutoff on May 24 from 8 AM to 4 PM. The impacted customers will receive a door hanger before the shutdown

San Juan Capistrano Sewer Project
- 2022-2023
- Monday - Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM
- Upgrading 8,128 feet of sewer pipelines
- There are two methods to upgrade the pipelines based on the age, location, and condition of the pipeline: UV-cured in-place liner and dig and replace.
